Dharamshala, a General category assembly seat and one of the 17 assembly segments of the Kangra Parliament Seat, is situated in the Kangra district. National Highway 503, which connects Dharamshala to Mubarakpur in Himachal Pradesh, is located not far from the city. The two major political parties in this assembly are the BJP and INC. Both Kishan Kapoor, the district’s MP, and Pawan Kumar Kajal, who is now the assembly’s MLA, were chosen to serve in that body. In addition to Muslim voters, rural voters, and urban voters, who make up around 1.4%, 61.94%, and 38.06% of the population, respectively, the 2011 Census report states that SC and ST assemblygoers make up 15.88% and 12.34% of the assembly’s total voting population, respectively. 82043 voters cast ballots in the 88 voting locations in the Dharamshala assembly during the 2019 Parliamentary Election. In addition, fewer registered voters in Dharamshala participated in the assembly as of the 2019 election (70.39% compared to 76.35% in the 2017 election). In addition, this area speaks Hindi and Kangri as well as being home to the Dalai Lama and all of the exiled Tibetans; Dharamshala is a well-known Buddhist tourist destination.
