The Solan district is home to Doon, a General category assembly seat and one of the 17 assembly segments of the Shimla(SC) Parliament Seat. Nearby the city lies the Doon-Paonta Sahib national highway, which links Chandigarh and Dehradun. The LHMP, BJP, and INC are the three main political parties represented in this assembly. Both the district’s MP, Suresh Kumar Kashyap, and the assembly’s current MLA, Paramjeet Singh, were chosen to serve in that body. The 2011 Census report shows that SC and ST assemblygoers make up 25.93% and 11.09% of the assembly’s total voting population, respectively, in addition to Muslim voters, rural voters, and urban voters, who make up around 2.9%, 74.09%, and 25.91% of the population, respectively. In the 93 polling places in the Doon assembly, 65190 electors cast ballots during the 2019 Parliamentary Election. Additionally, as of the 2019 election, 79.54% of Doon’s registered voters participated in the assembly, down from 89.63% in the 2017 election. In addition, Hindi is widely spoken here and Rajaji National Park, Kalesar National Park, and the Jaunsar-Bawar area, all of which border the Doon Valley.
