One of the 17 assembly segments of the Mandi Parliament Seat, Darang is a General category assembly seat and is located in the Mandi district. In close proximity to Darang lies the national highway NH154. The HVC, BJP, and INC are the three major political parties in this assembly. Both Jawahar Thakur, who is now the assembly’s MLA, and Pratibha Singh, who represented the INC and won the district’s latest Lok Sabha by-election in 2021 from Mandi following the passing of Ram Swaroop Sharma, who had won the general Lok Sabha election in 2019, were elected to that body. According to the 2011 Census report, SC and ST assemblygoers make up 25% and 3.82% of the assembly’s total voting population, respectively, in addition to Muslim voters, rural voters, and urban voters, who make up around 2.1%, 100%, and 0% of the population, respectively. The Darang assembly contains 128 polling places as of the 2019 Parliamentary Election, and 86188 people cast ballots. In addition, 73.43% of Darang’s registered voters participated in the assembly as of the 2019 election, down from 81.65% in the 2017 election.
