Dahod district is located in Gujarat on the banks of the Dudhimati River. It was formed following the division of the Panchmahal district. The Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb was born in the fort of Dahod in 1618, during the reign of Jahangir. This district has 12,91,743 voters, with a 65.8 percent turnout. It has six assembly constituencies, one general and five reserved for ST. There are nine talukas and three municipalities in the district. Total number of villages here is 696. Several tributaries of the Mahi river run through the district. There has been a government polytechnic college since 1963, and it was started by the Indian prime minister, Mr. Moraraji Desai.
