Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), founded in July 1950 under the Bombay Provincial Corporation Act of 1949, is in charge of the city’s civic infrastructure and administration. In 2005, the Central Government designated this city as a “Mega City.” The present municipal commissioner is Shri M. Thennarasan IAS. Shri Kirit Parmar is the mayor. AMC is Asia’s first municipality to access capital markets and has a high credit rating (AA+ by CARE). For administrative purposes, the city is divided into seven zones. Each zone is further divided into wards, totalling 48 wards. These 48 wards consist of 192 seats in total.
